Some of Gather is powered by **Claude**, an AI model made by **Anthropic**. This page explains what that means for what you type.

# Which features use it

- **Ask**, the assistant. Tell it what you want ("add milk to the list", "find the chili") and it works out what to do.
- **Read a recipe.** Paste a recipe, and Claude turns it into ingredients and steps.
- **Fix a line.** Claude suggests a cleaner version of one ingredient line.

Everything else in Gather, including your recipes, plans and lists, works without AI.

# What is sent to Anthropic

- **Ask** sends what you type, the name of the page you are on, and the last turns of your conversation (up to 12), so it can follow along.
- **Read a recipe** sends the text you pasted. **Fix a line** sends that one line.
- **Nothing that names you is sent**: not your name, your email or your account. But anything you type goes as you typed it, so leave out what you would not want processed.

# What is not sent

- Your recipe collection, meal plans and shopping list, unless you paste them in.
- **Your voice.** Gather does not record audio. If you dictate, your phone or computer turns your speech into text, and only the text is sent.

# What Anthropic does with it

- It uses what you send to answer you, and **does not train its models on it**.
- It deletes it within **30 days**. The exceptions: content its safety systems flag may be kept for up to 2 years, and the law may require keeping something longer.

# What Gather keeps

- Your **Ask conversation**, so you can scroll back. Only you can see it. **Clear history** deletes all of it at once.
- Nothing from Read a recipe or Fix a line, except what you choose to save.

# Check what it does

Claude can be wrong: it may misread an amount, get a conversion wrong, or miss an allergen. **Check anything that matters, especially allergies, diets and food safety.** When Ask does something for you, Gather tells you what it did.

# When it is off

Ask may be switched off, or may have used up today's allowance. Gather still works without it: enter recipes yourself, or use **Bring your own AI**.
